YERBA MATE BOMBILLAS

The bombilla is a special metal straw used to drink yerba mate, a hot beverage from South America. The bombilla consists of three parts; the tip or mouthpiece, the neck and the strainer. As the name implies, the mouthpiece is the end of the bombilla used to drink the infusion.

The neck which joins the mouthpiece and the strainer, sometimes is decorated with ornaments. It serves two purposes; to protect the brewer’s hand from being burned, and to strengthen the neck of the bombilla. It can be either straight or curved, depending on the drinker’s preference. The strainer prevents small particles of "yerba" from passing when the infusion is sucked.
